Interior Design Project – The Lakeland Retreat​

Our favourite holiday home interior design project to date – we give you the Lakeland retreat. An absolutely gorgeous, privately owned holiday home in the heart of the Lake District.

Our clients purchased this beautifully converted barn but needed a helping hand in giving it a bit of personality and making it feel like their home away from home. We provided design consultation services and also specified accent furniture, soft furnshings, lighting, artwork and accessories.
The barn had already been sympathetically converted and we didn’t want any interior styling or bold choices to take away from the beautiful architectural details of the home. The soft oak details on the roof beams, staircase and windowsills speak for themselves and make quite a statement.

As this house is a holiday home, it needed to have an overall air of calm and relaxation, we didn’t want to add too many design features that would require more cleaning either. The carpets are hardwearing and neutral and we kept the walls neutral too. The light and feeling of space in this home is fantastic.
To complement the oak details we chose furniture in untreated pine, with black accents like the dining chairs to add a pop of colour. We wanted to emphasize comfort – you can see in the photographs below that the window seat area and a basket full of cushions and blankets add to this soft, relaxing vibe. We kept window treatments simple deliberately – a lot of the rooms have nice views and we aimed to pull some of that indoors.

The overall look we went with ended up borrowing from different styles, there is a touch of New Hampshire and a lot of Scandanavian styling touches. We used a lot of natural fibres and textures in this home not only to reflect the surrounding Lake District but because natural elements help promote a feeling of harmony, and calm.
